Dr. Dennis Shelden

Dennis R. Shelden is Associate Professor of the Practice in Design and Computation, and a Founder and Chief
Technology Officer of Gehry Technologies. Shelden studied architecture, engineering and computing at MIT, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Art and Design in 1988, a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1997, and a Ph. D. in Computation and Design in 2002.

Shelden joined Frank O. Gehry and Associates in 1997 while non-resident in MIT’s Ph.D. program, and lead the development of the firm’s technology driven design and project delivery program during a critical period of the firm’s history. He performed the roles of Senior Associate, Director of Research and Development, and Director of Computing for the firm during the period 1998 - 2002.

In 2002 Shelden, Gehry, and James Glymph, FAIA, founded Gehry Technologies from the research and development team of Gehry Partners. Gehry Technologies performs software development, technology consulting, and research and development in parametric and generative design, and in digitally driven integrated project delivery. Since its inception in 2002 the firm has grown to 100 staff with offices in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Hong Kong and Dubai. Clients include notable architectural firms including Diller Scofidio & Renfro, Asymptote Architecture, Skidmore Owings and Merrill, and Zaha Hadid Architects. Gehry Technologies’ work has appeared in international exhibits including the 2008 Beijing Bienalle, and has received awards including the 2008 AIA Technology and Architectural Practice BIM Award for Process Innovation, and the 2007 Henry C. Turner Prize for Innovation in Construction Technology from the National Building Museum, received jointly with Gehry Partners.
