The residential educator academy will offer forum in residential construction curriculums covering basics of the means and methods of homebuilding, experiential learning assignments, textbooks, recruiting, online programs, certification programs and other helpful resources will also be covered.
Additionally, the following speakers will present research that was supported by the National Housing Endowment’s HELP grant program:
Scott Kelting is an Assistant Professor for the Department of Construction Management in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Scott will present project based integrative approach to delivering residential construction education, teaching the NAHB Certified Green Professional Designation, and recruiting students to increase students.
Eric Connell is a Professor and registered architect at East Carolina University (ECU). Eric will present his research conducted research from 20052007 that led to the “Gold Standard” for learning outcomes and curriculum advice, for 4year universities interested in developing and enhancing residential construction education. Eric will also discuss the current development of ECU’s online residential graduate program.
James Sullivan is Undergraduate Coordinator at the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction at the University of Florida (UF). Jim will present programmatic information and roadmaps regarding UF’s residential program. Programmatic information will include industry advisory board development, minor in real estate, certificate in residential, internships, course development, and community service initiatives.
